Keeping this in view, with a vision to create best science college, the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology was introduced in the year 2000. The Department offers the finest faculty in the region and the best laboratories, well equipped with the latest instruments. The laboratories under the department include Molecular and Genetic Engineering, Microbiology, Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental, Microbial Biotechnology and Computers and Bioinoformatics. The department is devoted to becoming a centre of excellence in the field of Research, Innovation and Healthcare to provide highly knowledgeable, globally competitive, skilled Biotechnologist and Microbiologist.

The department regularly organizes various professional development activities and grooms its students with the communication classes and personality development program. Sports, co curricular and extra curricular activities take place at institute level and students participate in various intra-college, inter-college, inter-university fests/competitions.

Department constantly works for overall growth of students and inculcates the qualities/features that are required and acceptable by Society. Faculty/students take initiative for social causes at individual level and as a team under different banners/clubs of the Institute. Turning a student into a good and proficient citizen is the prime aim of the department.

  • PEO 1: The objective of the Master’s Programme in Biotechnology is to equip the students to apply knowledge of molecular mechanisms of cellular processes in living systems including microbes, plants, and higher order organisms to applied aspects.
  • PEO 2: The laboratory training in addition to theory is included to prepare them for careers in the industry, agriculture, and applied research where biological system is increasingly employed.
  • PEO 3: Basics and current updates in the areas of Industrial Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, Agriculture & Environmental Microbiology are included to train the students and also sensitize them to scope for research.
  • PEO 4: The Masters in Biotechnology Programme will address the increasing need for skilled scientific manpower with an understanding of research ethics involving animals and humans to contribute to application, advancement, and impartment of knowledge in the field of biotechnology globally.
  • PEO 5: To produce students who assume professional leadership role.

Program Outcome

  • PO1: Life Science Knowledge: An ability to apply knowledge with facts and figures related to various subjects in pure sciences such as Biochemistry, Cell biology, Genetics,Molecular Biology, Recombinant DNA technology, Botany, Zoology,Microbiology,Nanotechnology and Biostatistics    
  • PO2: Problem Analysis: An ability to conduct experiments, as well as to analyze data, understand the basic concepts, fundamental principles, and the scientific theories while solving problems related to various scientific phenomena and their relevance in day to day life.
  • PO3: Modern tool usage: An ability to acquire the skills in handling scientific instruments, planning and performing in laboratory experiments to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability in Biotechnology.
