HoD's Message

The Department of Biotechnology, Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology, Meerut established in 2001 and is one of the oldest departments in state offering graduate and post graduate Engineering degrees in Biotechnology. The biotechnology department is envisaged to be a perennial hub of high excellence in biotechnology for higher education and research. The department is centre of research led practical based learning in biotechnology. The combination of highly qualified research oriented innovative faculty taking department on new heights. The department is strongly working for student development, research and placements. The department achieves several project funds from reputed organizations like DST, DBT, UPCST, ICMR etc. The students of department get placement in several multinational & national companies on excellent packages. Additionally, several students opt for higher studies from reputed institutions around the globe. Planned training programs on soft-skills and preparatory training for competitive exams like GATE, CAT and CSIR NET etc. are offered to enhance student’s competitiveness, placements and overall personality.

PEO 1: The objective of the Master’s Programme in Biotechnology is to equip the students to apply knowledge of molecular mechanisms of cellular processes in living systems including microbes, plants, and higher order organisms to applied aspects.
PEO 2: The laboratory training in addition to theory is included to prepare them for careers in the industry, agriculture, and applied research where biological system is increasingly employed.
PEO 3: Basics and current updates in the areas of Industrial Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, Agriculture & Environmental Microbiology are included to train the students and also sensitize them to scope for research.
PEO 4: The Masters in Biotechnology Programme will address the increasing need for skilled scientific manpower with an understanding of research ethics involving animals and humans to contribute to application, advancement, and impartment of knowledge in the field of biotechnology globally.
PEO 5: To produce students who assume professional leadership role.
PEO 6: To produce students who demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning.

PSO1: A thorough knowledge of Environmental, Nanobiotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology and other basic biological subjects whose knowledge is essential for biotechnology industries.

Program Outcome

PO1: Life Science Knowledge: An ability to apply knowledge with facts and figures related to various subjects in pure sciences such as Biochemistry, Cell biology, Genetics,Molecular Biology, Recombinant DNA technology, Botany, Zoology,Microbiology,Nanotechnology and Biostatistics
PO2: Problem Analysis: An ability to conduct experiments, as well as to analyze data, understand the basic concepts, fundamental principles, and the scientific theories while solving problems related to various scientific phenomena and their relevance in day to day life.
PO3: Modern tool usage: An ability to acquire the skills in handling scientific instruments, planning and performing in laboratory experiments to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability in Biotechnology.
PO4: Individual and Team work: An ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary teams and have an understanding of team leadership.
PO5: Development of solutions: An ability to analyze the given scientific data critically and systematically and the ability to draw the objective conclusions.
PO6: Ethics: An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
